In the seven days since his tragic death, searches for George Floyd have consistently been above coronavirus in the US. Black Lives Matter ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 is also gaining traction each day and is currently just 10 points below coronavirus for searches.
Showings of solidarity have played out across our social, too. On Instagram, Nike’s ‘For Once, Just Don’t Do It’ video has had 14.3 million views in 3 days while Twitter (as per my last post: https://lnkd.in/dJGfGxr) has made headlines for standing up to Trump.
📲 How have other tech brands responded
Brands haven’t held back in taking a stance, suggesting they are more politicised and ready to speak out than ever. As for tech companies…
YouTube has pledged £1 million to an NGO that works to eradicate discrimination in police forces.
TikTok has promised to address accusations it suppresses black creators.
PlayStation has moved its June 4th special announcement to a later date, explaining that now is not the time for celebration.
Snapchat and Facebook have also joined others in speaking out. Mark Zuckerberg condemned racism in a statement, having been subject to a virtual walkout at Facebook over his decision not to censor Trump.
